A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world.
Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.

Review

I really liked this book. It tells the story of Emi and Ava, the story is told from Emi’s point of view. Eli is a movie set designer, and with her best friend Charlotte they find a letter from  a recently deceased movie star. This leads them to look for the recipient of the letter, which leads to  them meeting Ava. Ava’s life has not been good, through the turns of life her life has gone from bad to worse, but after meeting Emi and Charlotte things start looking up.

This is the first LGBT book i’ve read, and I loved this aspect, the subject is introduced really subtly, and you are not beaten over the head with the fact that Emi is a lesbian, this is not presented as a revelation to shock the reader, it is simply a fact which accompanies the plot of the book, and it felt really natural.

Another aspect I loved of the book is Emi’s family, in YA books, parents tend to be non existent, but Emi’s parents are wonderful they are supportive of her, and of Ava’s situation.

Overall I think this book is amazing, the plot was a little predictable, but it is handled wonderfully and the writing is great.
